Seeing in 2013 ...

Sitting outside a pub nibbling Seabrook's crisps and gazing out to an untouched ocean will be a lasting memory of the start of 2013 for me. That, and having all the cobwebs of the previous year blown far away by the vigorous breeze on the cliff tops during the walk from Kettleness. First glimpses of Runswick Bay were of a collection of red-roofed cottages slumbering in s sheltered bay that weaves a smooth curve into the rugged North Yorkshire coastline. As we slipped and slid our way down the muddy path to the beach, we joined dog walkers, happy families - everyone enjoying the somewhat unfamiliar sight of sunshine. Was it a sign of better things to come in the new year?

We wandered down the beach and found our way to the pub - how could Tim be denied a beer when pub culture is totally absent where we live? We had just spent a few days in Durham, staying in the delightful Victorian Town House B&B, enjoying two delicious meals out and spending an afternoon reliving the good old days at Beamish. Christmas at home was lovely - a rare opportunity to see all the people I miss. When Tim and I returned to Switzerland we had a few days before the start of work and enjoyed getting on top of things, then went back to work and now feel like we never had a holiday. I'm listening to Light the Night from last year's marvellous The Snowman and the Snowdog to try and keep my spirits up!!
