An English countryside wedding ...

Who would have thought you needed to fly to England to find sunshine? But such was the case at the weekend for Tim and I, when we flew back to Suffolk for a wedding. The plane took us up and away through a dense ceiling of cloud and landed against a flawless blue sky in London Luton. I sometimes wonder if Zurich is ever going to see sunshine again, but that is a story for another day. As we drove further away from the airport, the countryside grew ever more rural and sparse. Nowhere but England do you find such wonderful gnarled hedgerows, or such beautiful fields and meadows rolling towards a purple horizon in tawny shades of yellow and green.

We stayed at The Suffolk Barn Bed and Breakfast in Wattisfield, a small village outside Bury St Edmunds, and it was delightful. The rooms were all self-contained within what must have once been a stables. We awoke to a clear sky and sun beams bursting through the window, and spent Saturday morning wandering around Bury St Edmunds and dashing into shops to buy last minutes items for the wedding that I hadn't been able to buy in Zurich. By the afternoon, cotton wool-like clouds had formed and danced in the sky - what a beautiful day for a wedding.

The wedding was at St Peter's church in Thurston, a quaint spot where buildings are scarce visible for woodland, and the reception at The Grange Country House Hotel. The whole ceremony was absolutely beautiful: peacock blue tied the bridal party together; the church was decorated with rustic posies; and the natural theme continued in the table decorations at the reception - daffodils in glass jars. Dinner was delicious, simple and unpretentious and came in the form of broccoli and stilton soup followed by a no-frills roast dinner and a chilli chocolate cheese cake. Entertainment was provided by a brilliant live band and there was much merriment as, late into the evening, bacon and Brie butties were served to keep energy levels up on the dance floor.

Getting crafty ...

Ahoy sunshine.. it has finally returned to Zurich with a whisper of springtime breeze, as if the Easter weekend has finally ushered in the fairer season. Let's hope it lasts. Since the clocks went back last autumn, it seems as if my skin has felt nothing but cloud: from fog and drizzle in October and November, to dark skies and snow from December through January, and colourless skies and rain and sleet from January until, well, today. I don't mind bad weather to a certain extent, as it gives me a reason to not feel guilty about staying indoors and being arty. On beautiful days, all my heart longs for is to be outside, whether jogging or spending a day in the mountains. So thanks to the months of bad weather, I have had plenty of opportunity to be creative and these are just some of the cards I have made ...
